"First, solve the problem. Then, write the code.” — John Johnson

Hello Readers,

My name is Peace Udotong, but everyone calls me Ella. I’m the Community Lead of PyClub UNILAG, and I had the incredible privilege of attending PyCon Nigeria 2025 with our amazing community.

PyCon Nigeria 2025 was nothing short of exceptional, from the wild networking to the endless inspiration, and even getting to meet people who have been in the tech industry for decades (some for 24 years, to be exact 👀).  PyCon Nigeria is not just a conference, but an amazing and vibrant Community. It’s a place where ideas flow freely, beginners and experts alike learn from each other, and the passion for tech is absolutely contagious.

I didn't attend as an individual; I was there with an amazing community, PyClub UNILAG. Together, we experienced the conference in full: learning, connecting, and representing our campus community with pride. The room was buzzing with Python developers, technical writers, software engineers, product leads, and aspiring techies and enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond, all gathered for one purpose: to learn, share, connect, and grow. Some came to inspire; others came to be inspired.

PyLadies – A Vibrant Female Python-Driven Community

My Day 1 at PyCon started with PyLadies, an amazing community inspiring girls to thrive in Python and tech. We also had a “Tech Therapy” session, where we talked about challenges, shared experiences, and got motivated to keep pushing forward in our tech journeys.

We talked about everything from:
👉 Being in a tech rut (and how to climb out of it)
👉 Dealing with imposter syndrome
👉 Navigating the beginner’s journey in tech
👉 The power of accountability and having the right community

It was one of those relatable sessions where you keep passing the mic, sharing experiences, asking bold questions… and before we knew it, we completely lost track of time. That’s the beauty of community—it doesn’t just teach, it heals and reminds you that you’re not alone.

Attending PyCon Nigeria 2025 was a beautiful reminder of how powerful a community can be. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was filled with energy, curiosity, and support.

PyLadies Nigeria hosted one session that really stood out to me; we discussed imposter syndrome, volunteering, and staying true to yourself in your tech journey. It felt less like a talk and more like a conversation we all needed.

A panelist said something that made me pause:

“Jack of all is better than master of none.”

And honestly, I agree with her. Being open to different paths doesn’t mean you’re confused; it means you’re curious enough to explore.

Another quote that stayed with me throughout the conference was:

"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with the community."

That perfectly summed up what PyConNG felt like, a place where everyone is moving forward together, learning from one another, and building something bigger than themselves.

Beyond the sessions, I met so many amazing people, beginners, professionals, and mentors. All open and willing to share. It showed me that Python isn’t just a language; it’s a bridge that connects people who want to build and grow together.

I left PyConNG 2025 inspired, grateful, and certain that this is just the beginning. 💚

My experience at PyConNG 2025 was amazing.

Attending for the first time, I felt like I was among family. The community embraced everyone, from the curious to the seasoned, making it truly enlightening.

From the first-day session with PyLadies, where I did a bit of networking, heard inspiring stories, and drew motivation from phenomenal people, to the last day, the conference was a ride.

A highlight was Adeola Lawal’s talk on the importance of building and belonging to a community, followed by a panel on breaking into tech with an engaging Q&A.

Day 3 sessions included Siddiq Ango on productivity and open-source collaboration, and Sogo Ogundowole on how AI agents simplify roles, emphasizing that value now lies in vision as much as in coding.

Another session highlighted how AI models struggle in African healthcare due to limited datasets, emphasizing the need for inclusive data and how Python can help bridge this gap.

Other sessions explored Python’s growing role—from education and supporting neurodiverse learners to fraud detection and other applications.

Overall, the sessions explored AI and Python’s limitless opportunities. I also learnt to see AI not as competition, but as an enabler we drive. PyConNG’25 left me motivated, curious, and ready to do more.

A big thanks to PyClub UNILAG and PyCon Nigeria for this experience—and yes, the food made it even more memorable. It was more than just a conference. It was a community filled with passion and purpose.

Looking forward to an even better PyConNg'26.

Attending the three-day PyCon Nigeria 2025 hybrid conference in Gbagada,Lagos was a truly unforgettable experience for me

I first got to know about the event through PyClub UNILAG, and it became my first-ever tech event, one that completely changed my perspective on learning, growth, and community in tech.

As a beginner in tech, I was deeply inspired on Day 1 by speakers who shared their stories of growth. Many of them were in the same position just a year ago during PyConNG 2024, and now, they were on stage presenting their projects. One speaker showcased an app that simplifies online payments, while another introduced an AI-powered project called “Travel Buddy” that enhances the travel experience through smart recommendations.

Day 2, the online sessions, provided valuable technical insights and practical examples of how Python is transforming industries from automation to AI-driven innovation.

Day 3 was the biggest day of all. Experienced professionals in the tech industry shared their journeys, lessons, and tips for overcoming procrastination and staying consistent. One speaker presented a personal productivity app that helps users manage their to-do lists and sends reminders to stay on track. Another speaker introduced an AI system that predicts outcomes based on data and regular patterns, which could help businesses that deal with perishable goods make smarter inventory and production decisions.

Inspired by the talks, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and start making connections. I met like-minded people passionate about AI

and machine learning, and we shared our experiences and challenges in learning. I also learned about other tech paths like data engineering, web development, and DevOps. It was an amazing experience; everyone was open, friendly, and eager to network and share their stories.

Overall, PyConNG25 wasn’t just a conference; it was a turning point for me. I left feeling motivated, informed, and connected. It showed me the power of community, collaboration, and consistency in building a meaningful tech career.
